Visual Communication - Cinematography and Video Production

This guide records how articulated postsecondary credit from a high school Cinematography and Video Production career and technical education (CTE) program of study will be accepted at the colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).

Credit for Prior Learning Request

COLLEGE CREDIT REQUIREMENTS

To earn KCTCS credit for Cinematography and Video Production, a student must have accomplished the following:

  1. Completed their high school Cinematography and Video Production program with a grade of B or higher.
  2. Passed the Cinematography and Video Production end of program assessment.
  3. Submitted the necessary documentation, signed by a school personnel, indicating all requirements have been met (see next page of this document for signature page).
  4. Applied to a KCTCS college and enrolled within three years of graduating high school.
  5. Successfully completes VCC 125 Computer Graphics I OR VCC 150 Mac Basics at the Kentucky Community & Technical College System.
  6. Met with the Visual Communication program coordinator (or their designee) at their home KCTCS college (see final page of this document for signature page).

Upon successful completion of the requirements above, a student will be eligible to receive college credit for the following course:

CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING BASED ON THE END OF PROGRAM ASSESSMENT:

Cinematography and Video Production and successfully completes VCC 125 Computer Graphics I or VCC 150 Mac Basics at KCTCS

VCM 125 Foundations of Video Production 
OR
VCM 140 Digital Video

3 credit hours

Students who do not complete three credit hours in an applicable postsecondary program at the KCTCS college within three years of the last course completed at the secondary institution may be required to take a special examination or to repeat the course if there has been significant change in related technology.

Credit for prior learning

In addition, a student who has passed and received Adobe certifications in Photoshop, After Effects and/or Premiere Pro within the last three years, will receive additional credit for the following courses once they have completed VCC 125 Computer Graphics I or VCC 150 Mac Basics:

VCC 166 Photoshop Basics (3 credit hours) and/or
VCM 140 Digital Video (3 credit hours) and/or
VCM 215 After Effects (3 credit hours)

 

This agreement will be in effect until changes are made to the KCTCS curriculum, the third-party assessment and/ or the end of program assessment. This is valid for students who graduate high school in 2022 and until the criteria for this CTE2KCTCS guide are changed.
