Computer Science

This form records how articulated credit from a high school computer science career and technical education (CTE) program of study will be accepted at the colleges of the Kentucky Community and Technical Colleges System (KCTCS).[1]

Students who are enrolled in a high school computer science program of study with specified criteria at the time it is approved are eligible for articulated credit upon graduation and after enrollment with a KCTCS College.

COLLEGE CREDIT REQUIREMENTS

To earn KCTCS credit for computer science, a student must have accomplished the following:

  1. Completed their high school computer science program with a B or higher
  2. Earned one or more of the industry-recognized certifications below (the certification must be valid)
  3. Submitted the necessary documentation, signed by school personnel, indicating all requirements have been met (see next page of this document for signature page)
  4. Applied to a KCTCS college and enrolled within three years of graduating high school.
  5. Met with the computer information technologies (CIT) program coordinator at their home KCTCS college.

Note: A no-cost STEP examination may be required (discuss with your CIT coordinator)

Upon successful completion of the requirements above, a student will be eligible to receive college credit for the following certifications. These certifications are completed as end of program assessments in the following high school tracks: IT Support and Services (1); Network Administration (2); or Network Security (3).

Note: CIT 160 and CIT 161 are also offered for dual credit through KCTCS colleges. If a student has already earned one or more of the courses through dual credit, then there is no need for articulation for the same course(s). Discuss the best option with your program coordinator.

This agreement will be in effect until changes are made to the KCTCS curriculum or the end of program assessment. This is valid for students who graduate high school in 2022 and until the criteria for this Articulation Agreement are changed.
