COLLEGE CREDIT REQUIREMENTS
To earn KCTCS credit for automotive technology, a student from an ASE Foundation-accredited school must have accomplished the following:
- Completed their high school automotive program with a grade of “C” or better in all automotive courses from an ASE Foundation-accredited school
- Passed the Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) Student Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) test with a minimum score of 70%
- Submitted the necessary documentation, signed by a school personnel, indicating all requirements have been met (see third page of this document for signature page)
- Applied to a KCTCS college with an automotive technology major and enrolled within two years of graduating high school
- Met with the automotive technology program coordinator (or their designee) at their home KCTCS college.
Upon successful completion of the requirements above, a student will be eligible to receive college credit for:
ADX-120 Basic Automotive Electricity (3 credit hours) and
ADX 121 Basic Automotive Electricity Lab (2 credit hours)
Note: ADX 120, ADX 121, and several other courses are offered for dual credit through KCTCS colleges. If a student has already earned one or more of the courses through dual credit, then there is no need for articulation for the same course(s). Please discuss the best option with your KCTCS program coordinator.
CREDIT FOR PRIOR LEARNING
In addition, a student who has passed and received certification through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) at the Entry or Professional level may earn up to a maximum of 54 credit hours.
- Credit will be granted ONLY upon receipt of an official proof of certification credential stating the date issued
- A copy of the credential must be filed as part of the student's permanent record
- The credential must be accepted within four years of the issue date on the credential
To earn a certificate, diploma, or degree, a student must complete at least 25-percent of the approved curriculum credits at the KCTCS college granting the credential, regardless of the time the student has attended the college.
