Ready to Work Program Successes From FY23
While there are too may success stories to mention, three programmatic success stories called out to be shared for FY23.
Born out of the pandemic and a need for laptops to complete remote school work and amplified by the increase in remote learning since, this years-long collaboration between Ready to Work, Tech Castle, and the Kentucky Department for Community Based Services has provided nearly 100 laptops in FY23 to KCTCS and KY Adult Education Ready to Work students. Since 2020, over 200 laptops have been purchased to assist students with their educational goals.
Thanks to a Truist Foundation grant, 218 Ready to Work students received intensive financial empowerment coaching. Financial planning, budgeting, and transitioning from college and KTAP were some of the topics covered. Students participated in-person and virtually while receiving supports such as gift cards and cash envelope systems for spending and saving.
Professional Development
in the past during KCTCS winter institutional closing, Ready to Work student were off work without pay for two week. This year, a virtual professional development program was offered to allow RTW funded work study participants to work remotely while monitored by the Ready to Work State Specialist.
"We were able to serve 133 folks, allowing them to continue to earn pay and avoid additional financial stresses during the holidays. They were able to select from a myriad of PD offerings for both their current work study positions and their upcoming careers. Students were overwhelmingly appreciative for the opportunity." - Matthew Strother, Ready to Work State Specialist
