KCTCS and Modo Launch New Mobile Platform to Connect Students Across 16 Colleges

modoThe Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and Modo launched a new, unified mobile experience designed to simplify how students, faculty, staff, and visitors access campus resources across all 16 KCTCS colleges.

Serving more than 120,000 students and 4,000 full-time faculty and staff, the new KCTCS mobile experience creates a single digital front door that connects academics, services, communications, events, and campus life in one cohesive experience.

Prior to this initiative, students often navigated multiple platforms, logins, and communication channels to access the information and services they needed. The new mobile experience addresses this challenge by delivering a modern, mobile-first solution that reduces friction and improves accessibility across the entire KCTCS community.

“Our goal was to create a more connected, accessible, and engaging experience for students across all of our colleges,” said Erica Marye, System Director of Digital Marketing at KCTCS. “This new platform brings everything together in one place, making it easier for students to access resources, stay informed, and connect with their campus community.”

A Connected Campus Experience

Designed to support multiple audiences, including current and prospective students, faculty, staff, and visitors, the new KCTCS mobile experience offers:

Personalized, role-based experiences
Single sign-on access to academic and student resources
Campus communications and emergency alerts
Events, calendars, and campus services
Personalized, tailored messaging with Modo Communicate
A multi-college experience supporting all 16 institutions
By integrating key systems such as PeopleSoft (SIS) and Blackboard (LMS), KCTCS has created a unified experience that simplifies access to essential tools while maintaining flexibility for future innovation.

From Access to Engagement

A key component of the new platform is KCTCS’ focus on helping students engage with campus life beyond academics.

This includes new capabilities powered by Modo My Community, which integrate dedicated community spaces for each individual college to highlight organizations, events, and opportunities for participation, making it possible for students to discover, join, and participate in campus activities without navigating separate systems.

This approach moves beyond traditional event calendars and disconnected tools, creating a more connected student experience where engagement becomes part of everyday campus life.

A Foundation for the Future

KCTCS selected Modo to support this initiative based on its ability to deliver a flexible, mobile-first platform that integrates with existing systems while supporting multiple audiences across a single experience.

“Higher education institutions are rethinking how students engage with their campus experience,” said Andrew Umans, General Manager at Modo. “KCTCS is leading the way by creating a unified digital front door that connects systems, simplifies access, and makes it easier for students to participate and succeed.”

Looking ahead, KCTCS plans to expand the platform with a desktop portal experience, personalized communications, indoor wayfinding, AI with Modo My Agent, as well as custom extensions, ensuring it continues to evolve alongside institutional priorities and student expectations.
