The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Foundation has received a $100,000 gift from the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels to continue supporting scholarships for student-parents enrolled at KCTCS colleges across the Commonwealth.

This most recent contribution brings the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels’ lifetime giving to $1.8 million, supporting scholarships that have helped more than 500 student-parents pursue education and workforce credentials while balancing family responsibilities.

The Better Life Scholarship provides financial assistance to eligible single parent students who are raising children while working toward a degree or credential. By helping cover the cost of tuition and related expenses, the scholarship reduces financial barriers that often prevent student‑parents from completing their education.

“The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels has been an extraordinary partner to KCTCS and to communities across Kentucky,” said KCTCS President Dr. Ryan Quarles. “Their continued investment reflects a deep commitment to education, workforce development, and strengthening Kentucky families.”

“We have been proud to invest in the Better Life Scholarship since 2003 and hope Kentucky Colonels everywhere share our pride in knowing they have impacted generations of families through the transformative power of education,” said Sherry Crose, executive director of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels.

Since the scholarship program’s inception, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels has played a pivotal role in expanding access to education for KCTCS students, helping them achieve credentials that lead to meaningful employment and long‑term economic stability.

“We are grateful for this generous donation that allows us to unlock potential of KCTCS students across Kentucky so they can achieve meaningful, high-wage careers and give back to their communities in the future,” said Dr. Megan Stith, executive director of the KCTCS Foundation.

“I packed up two laundry baskets and moved into an unfinished basement with my three girls to escape the situation I was in,” shared one recipient of the Better Life Scholarship. “I started from the ground up and saved for months to get my life back on track. Now I am pursuing a nursing degree, and I know that I will find a way to make it work because I want to make a better life for myself and my kids.”
