New members join KCTCS Board of Regents
The Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board of Regents welcomed four new board members last week at a meeting at Jefferson Community and Technical College.
Dr. Tara Horn of Somerset and Ken Hunt of Paducah were recently appointed to the board by Gov. Andy Beshear. Horn is a women’s health practitioner at Perennial Women’s Wellness and Hunt is chairman emeritus of A&K Construction. They will serve six-year terms.
Two students also joined the board — Ella Fulton of Carlisle and Josh Givens of Central City. They were elected by students and will serve one-year terms.
“I’m excited to welcome our new members to our Board of Regents,” said KCTCS President Ryan Quarles. “They each bring a fresh perspective and a deep commitment to their communities. I know their voices will make us stronger as we work together to open more doors of opportunity for students across Kentucky.”
Fulton is a student at Maysville Community and Technical College where she is an active campus leader and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She plans to earn an associate degree and transfer to Eastern Kentucky University to major in mathematics and minor in actuarial science. Her goal is to become an actuary.
Givens is a nursing student at Madisonville Community College. Before resuming his education, he built a career as a print journalist. Givens is active in numerous organizations and currently serves as president of the Student Government Association. He is also a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Kentucky National Guard.
The KCTCS Board of Regents acts as the governing body of KCTCS and is made up of 14 members. Eight members are appointed by the governor, while six are elected members from within KCTCS: two members of the teaching faculty elected by faculty; two staff members by non-teaching personnel; and two members of the student body elected by students.
