KCTCS Student Mental Health Collaboration
KCTCS is excited to share news about a four-year collaboration focused on mental health with the JED Foundation, the Healthy Minds Network, and the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.
Healthy Minds Study Launch – February 26, 2024
KCTCS is teaming up with the Healthy Minds Network to conduct the Healthy Minds Study in Spring 2024. Administering this study to KCTCS students is the initial step in comprehensively addressing the mental health needs of our student body. The study, which focuses on mental health, lifestyle/health behaviors, attitudes/awareness, service utilization, and the academic/social environment, aligns with the diverse challenges faced by community college students.
Through the collected data, KCTCS can evaluate and enhance existing programs, assess the need for additional services, and advocate for improved mental health initiatives. The study not only enables a tailored response to our unique mental health landscape but also strengthens grant applications, raises awareness among students, and facilitates national and peer institution comparisons.
The study is set to launch on February 26, 2024, and will close on March 18. All students aged 18 and over will receive an email with a unique link to complete the survey. We encourage our students to participate and share their experiences when the survey opens. Students who complete the survey will be eligible for prizes. The email will have specific details on prizes. Make sure you read it!
The survey will be sent to you on February 26, 2024, from healthyminds-KCTCS@umich.edu. Watch out for it!
JED Foundation Partnership: Boosting Student Mental Health
Our collaboration with the Jed Foundation (JED) marks a significant milestone in our commitment to enhancing student mental health at KCTCS. JED is dedicated to safeguarding the emotional well-being of young adults, striving for a future where every student can navigate mental health challenges successfully. Grounded in the Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention, developed collaboratively with the Suicide Prevention Resource Center, JED's programs assess current campus initiatives and intentionally consider the needs of potentially marginalized students. Through this partnership, KCTCS aims to evaluate and enhance existing programs, implement targeted mental health services, and contribute significantly to the overall well-being and success of our students.
