What Is Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education?
Mission
Our mission is to provide services that will enhance IECE student growth and foster learning, promoting student success by breaking down barriers to personal and professional development so that the children in our students’ care will receive a quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood education. We lay a foundation of learning in the Early Childhood field by providing an understanding of the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development of young children. Opportunities to apply this knowledge in practical experiences are incorporated in a curriculum that encompasses developmental ages and stages, health and safety, diversity and inclusion, curriculum planning, assessment, and family involvement. The underlying philosophy of our program is that nurturers must be nurtured.
Conceptual Framework
Just as we cannot teach a child’s mind while ignoring the physical and social/emotional needs, we cannot produce nurturers who will perform at their optimum level in a physically, mentally, and emotionally draining job if we have neglected their needs.
Therefore, we are committed to breaking down barriers to personal and professional growth by collaborating with colleagues to see that support services are available for students. At the same time, we work tirelessly to set and uphold high standards and to maintain our reputation in the community and in our partnerships as a quality program that prepares candidates to meet the needs of children by upholding the NAEYC standards of excellence.
Our courses and outcomes reflect this commitment:
Our Battle Cry - "Nurture Nurturers by breaking Down Barriers!"
