Associate in Arts to Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting

Overview

Completion of the following curriculum will satisfy the requirements for the Associate of Arts at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and lead to the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting at the University of Pikeville (UPIKE).

Admission Requirements

Students completing an associate degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher will be admitted into UPIKE.

Degree Requirements for UPIKE

To earn a bachelor’s degree at UPIKE, students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours, with a minimum of 39 credit hours in courses numbered 300 and above while maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or higher depending on individual program requirements. In addition, at least 50%of the credit hours required in the major, minor, or area of concentration and a total of 25% of the credit hours toward a degree must be earned at UPIKE. Students must successfully complete the 36 credit hours of the General Education Curriculum and all institutional and departmental assessment requirements. Students must receive a grade of “C” or better in all major, minor, related studies, or area of concentration courses.

General Transfer Information

  1. Complete and return the application for admission.
  2. Submit official transcripts from KCTCS and any other institutions attended.
  3. Submit additional documentation required by UPIKE Admissions.

Degree Requirements for KCTCS

1) Completion of minimum 60 credit hours, 2) minimum cumulative GPA 2.0, 3) minimum of 15 credit hours earned at the institution awarding the degree, 4) cultural studies course, 5) demonstration of digital literacy, and 6) college success requirement.

Students must choose either two semesters of foreign language (to satisfy BA requirements) or two additional lab sciences courses (to satisfy BS requirements) at UPIKE. The pathway recommends the language option to fit into AA requirements at KCTCS, but students do have an alternative if they choose.

The completion of an AA or AS at KSCTC fulfills UPIKE’s Gen Ed Requirements with three exceptions:

  1. The equivalent of COM 225 at UPIKE
  2. The equivalent of a Systematic Study of the Bible course at UPIKE
  3. The equivalent of an Engaging Our World course at UPIKE

In addition to completing the requirements of the AA degree, students can complete additional courses from the following categories in order to satisfy the general education requirements at UPIKE. If a student completes the AA degree and transfers to UPIKE without completing these courses, they will need to be taken at UPIKE.
