AA to BS in Elementary Education P-5 Teaching

Completion of the following curriculum will satisfy the requirements for an Associate in Arts at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and leads to the Bachelor of Science in Education at Eastern Kentucky University.

Admission Requirments

to apply as a transfer:

  • Complete the EKU online application
  • Application processing fee is waived for KCTC students
  • Provide official college transcripts for each institution attended reflecting all coursework attempted or earned. Only credits from regionally accredited institutions will be accepted. 

*Students who have earned 23 hours or fewer of college credits after high school graduation must also provide a final high school transcript along with ACT or SAT scores and meet the requirements for incoming freshmen.

Student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Students transferring in the equivalent of EDU 203 and/or EDF 219 will be required to take EDF 310 and CED 150 prior to admission to the teacher education program. It is recommended that they take it as dual enrollment in the spring/or fall or taking it over the summer before starting full-time at EKU.
  • A state criminal history background check approved by the College of Education. Under certain circumstances, a national criminal history background check may be required as a condition of admission.
  • Admission Test Requirement: Candidates must have a passing score on the following tests: 
    PRAXIS Core Academic Skills for Educators (CASE): Reading (Score 156); Writing (Score 162);

  • Two faculty recommendations
    • 1 from EKU EDF 310/CED 150 instructor
    • 1 from another faculty member, must contact EKU for submission link.

Transfer scholarships

Students who transfer to EKU with a minimum of 24 college credits are eligible to receive the 
university’s Transfer Scholarship. Students must be enrolled full time and maintain an EKU GPA of 3.0+ to retain the scholarship. The maximum award for the scholarship is for 3 academic years (6 semesters).

Students who have already earned a Bachelor’s Degree or are enrolled in 100 percent online programs are not eligible for Transfer Scholarships
