1.6. Award of CPL for ACE Learning Evaluations and Military Credit for Prior Learning

1.6.1. Purpose

A student may receive course credit equivalency based on workplace learning and alternative educational experiences and/or military training and experience following program- or discipline-specific faculty endorsement of recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE).
1.6.2. Definition

ACE Learning Evaluations - Credit may be awarded based on faculty evaluation of an ACE Transcript using The ACE National Guide, published by the American Council on Education (www.acenet.edu).

1.6.3. Military Credit for Prior Learning - ACE Recommendations based on the Joint Services Transcript

Credit may be awarded based on faculty evaluation of military training and experience documented on the Joint Services Transcript (JST), using the ACE Military Guide, published by the American Council on Education (www.acenet.edu).

1.6.4. Role of Faculty and Associated Procedures

Program- or discipline-specific faculty will evaluate an ACE Transcript based on the ACE National Guide or ACE Military Guide and determine if course equivalency is warranted. Course equivalency may be direct course equivalencies, general education elective credit, and/or technical credit. Once their evaluation is completed, the faculty member completing the evaluation shall provide recommendations to the college registrar’s staff.

1.6.5. Role of Administrative Staff and Associated Procedures

The ACE transcript shall be sent to the student's home KCTCS college as part of the student’s admissions process. The registrar’s staff shall provide the ACE transcript to the appropriate faculty member for evaluation. If credit for prior learning is approved, the faculty member shall inform the registrar’s staff of their determination. The registrar’s staff shall award the appropriate credit(s) on the student’s transcript. Credit awarded via ACE transcript does not count towards residency requirements. KCTCS or individual colleges do not charge students for academic credit awarded through ACE transcript evaluations.
