5.0.3 Graduation

Graduation exercises may be held at the discretion of the college president.

Credentials may be issued at the annual graduation exercise or at other times when the credential has been recommended by the faculties of the individual colleges as delegated by the Senate and approved by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board of Regents.

5.0.3.1 Posthumous Degree and Credential in Memoriam

  • 5.0.3.1.1 Process for Nomination for Posthumous Degrees and Credentials in Memoriam:
    • Faculty of the program may nominate a deceased student for posthumous degree recognition or a credential in memoriam with consent from surviving family members. The faculty will submit the nominations to the Chief Academic Officer. The CAO will review the proposal. If approved by the CAO, the nomination will be presented to the local college faculty for a vote. Once affirmed by the faculty, the proposal will be reviewed for final approval and certification by the College President. The nomination will then be forwarded to the KCTCS Chancellor for system approval.
  • 5.0.3.1.2 Credential Options:
    • Posthumous Degrees in Memoriam: An academic credential awarded for students who were currently enrolled and have completed at least 75% of all coursework toward the credential the student was pursing at the time of their passing. A posthumous degree in memoriam will not be included in the official count of completed credentials.

      Posthumous Degrees in Memoriam will include:

      Associate of Arts in Memoriam, Associate of Science in Memoriam, Associate of Fine Arts in Memoriam, or Associate of Applied Science in Memoriam or the program of study the student was pursuing at the time of their passing.

      OR

      Credentials in Memoriam: A credential that honors a deceased student’s progress toward a degree when they have not completed (75%) of all the required coursework. A credential in memoriam will not be included in the official count of completed credentials.

      Credentials in Memoriam will include:
