3.23 Integrated Nursing Program
3.23.1 System Guidelines
Enrollment in the Integrated Nursing Program may be limited because of available laboratory facilities in the community, as well as limited faculty and financial resources at the college.
- Technical Standards/Essential Abilities
- Nursing at the technical level involves the provision of direct care for individuals
and is characterized by the application of verified knowledge in the skillful performance
of nursing functions. All students should possess:
- sufficient visual acuity, such as is needed in preparation and administration of medications and for the observation necessary for patient assessment and nursing care;
- sufficient auditory perception to receive verbal communication from patients and members of the health team and to assess health needs of people through the use of monitoring devices such as cardiac monitors, stethoscopes, IV infusion pumps, Doptones, fire alarms, etc;
- sufficient gross and fine motor coordination to respond promptly and to implement the skills, including the manipulation of equipment required in meeting health needs;
- sufficient communication skills (speech, reading, writing) to interact with individuals and to communicate their needs promptly and effectively, as may be necessary in the individuals' interest; and
- sufficient intellectual and emotional functions to plan and implement care for individuals.
- In addition to the other qualifications, the college will, in compliance with KCTCS
regulations and in the manner and to the extent permitted by law, endeavor to provide
opportunities to all students in order to promote diversity among the student population
in the Integrated Nursing Program.
Selection of students for the Integrated Nursing Program will be made by the Nursing Admissions Committee, which is to be appointed for this purpose. Membership on this committee shall be from the college as follows:- Nurse Administrator/Program Coordinator (chair of the Admissions committee, as well as the Nursing Admission Subcommittee);
- Four - five Nursing Faculty Members; (the Nursing Admissions Subcommittee); and
- three - four Members-At-Large, e.g. Counselors, General Studies Faculty.
- Admission Requirements
- The applicant is required to view a preadmission conference. After viewing the preadmission
conference and submitting required information, the applicant will receive an application
link via email.
In order to be considered for admission to the Integrated Nursing Program, each applicant must submit the following by the deadline published by the program:- transcripts of postsecondary work completed at all institutions;
- enrollment in, or proof of completion with a grade of C or better in pre-requisites;
- Integrated Nursing Program application; and
- results of the nationally normed nursing entrance exam required by the program.
- Applicants are ranked by points according to the Admission Evaluation System as outlined
in the preadmission conference.
A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. GPA will be configured on pre-requisite and general education courses required for the nursing program only.
PN to RN applicants seeking admission into RN program will be considered for either second or third semester dependent on their score on a nationally normed exam. The designated exam and scores will be outlined in the Preadmission Conference.
- The applicant is required to view a preadmission conference. After viewing the preadmission

- Readmission
- In order to be considered for readmission by the Nursing Admissions Subcommittee,
the applicant must:
- submit a readmission application to the nursing office;
- meet current admission guidelines specified above; and
- submit results of nationally normed exam, if applicable.
- A student may be readmitted to the Integrated Nursing Program one time. A second readmission
will only be considered under catastrophic circumstances as determined by the Nurse
Administrator/Program Coordinator.
The Nursing Admissions Subcommittee will review all applicants applying for readmission and will make recommendations considering factors including, but not limited to, professional behaviors and clinical performance evaluations.
Students who have had one unsuccessful attempt (a grade of W, D, or E) in any nursing program will be considered as a readmission applicant and may be readmitted into the Integrated Nursing Program. Readmission is not guaranteed.
- In order to be considered for readmission by the Nursing Admissions Subcommittee,
the applicant must:
- Readmission Guidelines:
- 1st year students:
- 1st and 2nd semester students will be considered for readmission one time if all admission criteria are met.
- If a student is put on the waitlist but not admitted or enrolled, they may reapply one more time for the next semester.
- If the student is denied admission, they must wait 3 years before applying as a new student to the Integrated Nursing Program (NIP) again where they will be considered for admission into the 1st semester.
- 2nd year students:
- 3rd semester traditional students will be offered admission in NIP 140. Upon completion of NIP 140 and practical nursing licensure, the student may apply as a PN to RN entry student;
- 3rd semester PN to RN students will be required to take the NACE 1 exam and score an 80% to be considered for readmission in 3rd semester; or
- 4th semester traditional students will be offered admission in NIP 140. Upon completion of NIP 140 and practical nursing licensure the student may apply as a PN to RN entry student.
- 1st year students:
- If more than three years have elapsed since initial enrollment in the first nursing
course of the Integrated Nursing Program, an applicant must repeat all nursing courses.
If a student is dismissed from the Integrated Nursing Program for violating the Certified Background/Urine Drug Screen Policy or the Professional Conduct Policy as defined in the Integrated Nursing Program Student Handbook, readmission is NOT an option. - Transfer
- Madisonville Community College is the only KCTCS college offering the Integrated Nursing Program curriculum; therefore, transfer students are only eligible to apply for 1st semester or PN to RN entry per the admission criteria as outlined above.
