What is KY FAME?
The Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (KY FAME) is a statewide, industry-led initiative addressing the critical need for highly skilled advanced manufacturing talent. Founded by manufacturers, KY FAME blends paid work experience with technical education to develop career-ready graduates.
How It Works
Students are sponsored by an employer and enroll in a structured “earn-and-learn” model:
- Work-Based Learning: 24+ hours/week on the job with a sponsoring company.
- Technical Education: 2 days/week at a local KCTCS college, earning an AAS degree in Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT).
Key Highlights
- Industry-Led Program: Employers govern each chapter, select students, and align the curriculum to real-world needs.
- Colleges Are Providers: KCTCS colleges act as training partners—they deliver instruction but do not own or control the program.
- Minimal Debt: Students earn a paycheck while attending college, often graduating with little or no debt and a job offer in hand.
- Professional Skills: Emphasis on soft skills, lean manufacturing, safety, and critical thinking—preparing students for long-term career growth.
