Educational Offerings

AAS Degrees

Allow students to complete a specified course of study in one of many occupational or technical programs offered at KCTCS, and are intended to help meet workforce needs. AAS degrees include some general education requirements, and may be transferable to bachelor degree programs. AAS degrees are awarded to students who complete 60-68 credit hours, including specified general education and technical and support components.

AA/AS/AFA Degrees

Allow students to tailor and complete a general course of study to meet their interests, and to fulfill the general education requirements of the first two years of bachelor degree programs. AA/AS degrees are awarded to students who complete a minimum of 60 credit hours, including the specified general education requirements.

Diplomas

Allow students to complete a prescribed program of technical and general education courses designed to prepare students for technical employment in a specific occupation and/or job title. Diplomas also allow students to fulfill some of the requirements toward an associate degree, and provide opportunities for continued education for certificate program graduates. Diplomas are awarded to students who complete 36-60 credit hours of designated technical and general education courses.

Certificates

Prepare students with entry-level technical skills expected of employees in an occupation found in the local economy, and may contain some general education courses. Requirements for a certificate are applicable to the requirements of a diploma or associate degree in the same or a related field of study, and qualify students to take external licensure, vendor-based, or skill standards examinations in the field. Certificates are awarded to students who complete 12-36 credit hours of designated technical and general education courses.
